Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps people regain, develop, and build important skills for independence, health, well-being, security, and happiness. We work with those who, because of illness, injury, or developmental or psychological impairment, require assistance in learning skills that lead to independence and productivity.

Occupational therapy helps prevent injury and worsening of existing conditions or disabilities. It promotes independence in individuals who might otherwise need institutionalization or other sub-acute care. The occupational therapy team works with patients daily on the following skills and tasks, to prepare them for the return to work, the return home - the return to an active, healthy lifestyle:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Strength and endurance training
  • Adaptive equipment training
  • Positioning techniques for wheelchairs and beds
  • Splinting customization for each patient
  • Bowel and bladder function retraining
  • Discharge training for family and patient
  • Home evaluations
