NORFOLK, Va. – February 2020 – Kenneth Burchard has been named executive director of the Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital Foundation.
In his new position, Burchard will be responsible for implementing financial development plans; communicating with patients, families, individuals and groups, businesses and corporations to generate sustainable financial support; and the stewardship of those contributions and the Foundation’s charitable investments.
Burchard served for six years with the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman before embarking on a 20 year career in pastoral work in California, including additional part-time work serving terminally ill patients in home healthcare settings. In 2014, he moved to Virginia Beach to work for Operation Smile in corporate philanthropy and later in the same role at Operation Blessing. Most recently, he served as VP of Resource Development for United Way of South Hampton Roads.
In 2005, Burchard and his wife, Mary Jo, adopted a toddler from an orphanage in Ukraine with a physical birth defect. His family’s journey living through 13 corrective surgeries drew Burchard into the world of pediatric healthcare and influenced his career path toward institutional development. Their son, Victor, is now a healthy rising senior at Ocean Lakes High School.
“I look forward to sharing the passion of the hospital’s staff and volunteers and especially the inspiring patient experiences with supporters of the Foundation and the greater Hampton Roads community,” he said.
Burchard received a bachelor of arts degree in Business Administration from Fresno Pacific University and master’s in New Testament from Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary.
