Deborah B. Bauman, ODU Assistant Dean, College of Health Services Elected Chair
NORFOLK, VA – November 2020 – At its annual meeting this fall, the Hospital Authority of Norfolk held officer elections for the Board of Commissioners. The Authority board, which oversees Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, elected the following officers:
- Deborah B. Bauman, Chairperson (two-year term)
- Sarah M. Bishop, Vice Chairperson
- William T. Greer, Jr., Ph.D., Secretary
- Edward L. Lilly, M.D., Treasurer
These four officers, along with Rev. Calvin A. Durham, Immediate Past Chair, and Thomas J. Orsini, president and CEO of Lake Taylor, make up the Board’s Executive Committee. Other current commissioners include: Anita O. Poston; Willette L. LeHew, M.D.; R. Breckenridge Daughtrey, Betty W. Davis, F.N.P., and Beverly Roberts-Atwater, D.O., Ph.D. Most recently, Edward H. Roeber has also been appointed to the board by Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander.
Ms. Bauman is assistant dean of the College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, and formerly served as chair of the School of Dental Hygiene. She is an expert on Diabetes and Oral Health and has authored scholarly papers and contributed book chapters on the topic. She served two dental mission trips with the Norfolk-based Physicians for Peace, where she also helped start a dental assistant education program at the University of Leon (Nicaragua). Ms. Bauman served as invited visiting professor at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Officer elections are held from among the Board annually with the exception of the Chairperson who serves a two-year term. The Hospital Authority of Norfolk is comprised of a Board of Commissioners whose members are appointed by the Mayor of Norfolk. The Authority was established in 1988 to oversee the operations of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, 1301 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
